We have all experienced disappointment at one point or another in our life. It comes with the territory. Whether it was a job, business or relationship we have all wanted something to turn out one way and it ended up turning out another. The only way to avoid being disappointed is to never do anything. For me that is not an option. I hope you feel the same way.
So what can we do when we hit those inevitable bumps in the road? Here are 5 things you can do to help you overcome disappointment.
Keep moving-Rodney Atkins has a song, “If you are going through hell keep on moving”. Lord aint that the truth. Do not stop. Keep pushing and keep moving. Sometimes your breakthrough is right around that next corner. Just keep on pressing forward and you will reach your destination.
Look for the lesson-There is a lesson to learn in every disappointment. In fact we can learn more through our failures than we can our victories. Make sure you do not miss the lesson. You have already paid the price so you might as well learn the lesson. Your lesson today will be your victory tomorrow.
There is no testimony without the test-Your greatest benefit to others maybe letting them know that you have been where they are now. Once you have achieved that victory then you can show them the way out. Your testimony maybe just what another person needs to keep moving through hell.
Help someone else-if you are going through something look for someone else to help. Many times we forget our problems when we spend some time trying to help someone else out. Of course you cannot spend all your time helping others because then your problems would go unsolved. Just take a moment and take your eyes off your own problems. You will come back refreshed and ready to move forward to victory.
Setbacks are setups for victory-in the midst of today’s defeat lay the seeds for tomorrow’s victory. They will only work if you plant and water them. Use them as building blocks, not stumbling stones. Then when you are down the road you will look back and say that it was at that moment that you victory was decided. It was at that moment that the decision was made to keep pushing. It was at that moment that you snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we handle our life. Learning to manage your disappointments maybe the greatest skill you will ever acquire. While others are having pity parties and crying over spilled milk, you will be sailing towards the victory circle. If you keep your head up and keep moving forward, today’s disappointments will be tomorrow victories.
Testimony time. What defeat have you overcome that lead to a victory? Post your comment below.
